Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about the Top Ten Best/Worst Series Endings. It’s been awhile since our last Top Ten list, but we couldn’t pass up the chance to talk about this one. So without further delay, here is our list of the best and worst series endings:
THE BEST:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
Harry Potter has everything you could possibly want in a series. When you finish reading Deathly Hallows all you want is more more more. We love how well this was tied up. Sometimes we wish everyone would give us the flash-forward that J.K. Rowling did.
Into the Still Blue:
It’s no secret that we love Veronica Rossi and the Under the Never Sky Series. We were so scared to read Into the Still Blue, but it’s safe to say that we shouldn’t have been. This is one of the best series endings we have ever read. Want even more Perry and Roar? We have a podcast episode dedicated to them.
Boundless:
We love the Unearthly series by Cynthia Hand. We were a little disappointed with Hallowed, but Boundless made almost everything better. We’re still not sure Clara ended up with the boy we wanted, but we think that everything happened for a reason.
Spell Bound:
The Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins had everything we wanted and more. We loved Sophie, we loved Archer, we basically loved everything about this one. Spell Bound was a great series ending that stayed true to the story and the characters. We were sad to see it end, but were happy with how everything went down.
Allegiant:
Since only two people that are not Veronica Roth (and probably her hubby) have read this one, we obviously can’t say this for sure. But we’re projecting this out into the universe so that it will happen. This is the series that if it doesn’t end well will absolutely crush us. We’re talking deep, dark depression. Only 14 more days until we find out… (and until we get more Four!)
THE WORST:
Mockingjay:
We absolutely loved The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, but when we finished Mockingjay we were left all kinds of disappointed. That’s not to say there wasn’t some things we loved {“You love me. Real or not real?” I tell him, “Real.”} but there was just too much that we didn’t love for this to make the best list.
Breaking Dawn:
For a long time this was our most disappointing series ending. In some ways it still is, but something later on this list outranks it just a little. Did we love that Edward and Bella are together? That she didn’t kiss Jacob again? That no one uber important died? Of course. But when you think about the mutant baby, the fact that Edward Cullen became a major p***y, and pages filled with build-up that amounted to nothing- you have a recipe for disaster. It still makes us sad to think about.
The Last Battle:
This is one of those series enders that has disappointed us since we were young. Everyone dies (well almost everywhere. Poor Susan.), everything is sad and depressing, and that awesome, quirky voice that is C.S. Lewis usually writes with has been transformed into something that makes this one difficult to enjoy at all. We’re not sure we’ll ever get over this one.
Dreaming Awake:
This one reads like the middle of the series even though it’s not. It’s safe to say for this one that a non-ending is a non-ending. We needed more.
Requiem:
::sigh:: Where do we even begin? The easiest way to explain how disappointed we were in this one is to say this. It made us wish we had never read the first two books. That’s saying a lot because we loved them. We’ve actually never talked more about any other middle book than we did about Pandemonium, but Requiem ruined everything for us. Everything.
