{Top Ten Tuesday} Books That Will Make Us Cry

Swoony Boys Podcast Top Ten Goals/Resolutions For 2014 Today’s Top Ten Tuesday gives us a chance to talk about the Top Ten Books That Make Us Cry! This was actually a relatively easy list for us to compile. When something taps into your emotions the way these books do, you don’t ever forget them. (As usual we went alphabetical because once you pick the top ten, it’s too hard to put them in order!) Here’s our list…

Top 10 Books That Make Us Cry:

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

There’s many reasons that this one makes us cry. We’re not going to get into it all here, but we will say that our copies of the book have Kassiah and Meg tear stains permanently on their pages.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Oh, man. We could have put the whole series here. The Hunger Games grabbed us and made us desperate for more, Mockingjay brought the shock and awe flow of tears, but it was Catching Fire that solidified our love for these characters and this series. We still can’t think about certain scenes without getting a little misty eyed.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Have you read this? If so, you already know exactly why it’s on this list. If you haven’t, we want you to stop whatever you’re doing (yes, even reading this post!) and go grab a copy and read it. Have your tissues nearby and enjoy every single word.

Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks (as “Anonymous”)

Sometimes you read a book and you know that you’re life will never be the same. This is one of those books. It is over 40 years old and manages to still ring true to every new generation. Meg still remembers the first time she read it, and the feeling that it left her with after. It is a difficult read, maybe even the most difficult on this list, but it is a must read.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling

You don’t even want to know how many times we’ve read all the books in this series. Plus, we’re actually not even sure we could give you an answer if you asked. What we can tell you is that each of the seven will touch you in some way, but there was a certain scene in this one that we will never forget. Ever.

How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo

Have you read this one? Have you? Have you? This one caught us off guard. We thought we knew what was going to happen, and the BAM! This book is filled with angst, swoon, laughter, and tears. Nothing can prepare you for the heart wrenching pain that is HtKaRS. Not even this warning.

GoodreadsAmazon

Looking for Alaska (and The Fault in Our Stars) by John Green

We’re pretty sure most people will have a certain John Green book on their list. We’re not going to even pretend that we didn’t cry big ugly tears when reading TFiOS, but it’s LfA that has a special place in our hearts. If you haven’t read it already, do so immediately.

Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

The way this series ends makes us want to cry for so many reason, but it’s this middle book that ripped our hearts out. It is the cliff hanger to end all cliff hangers. We don’t have a conversation about a book that ends in a cliffy that doesn’t include the phrase, “it was nothing compared to Pandemonium… but what is?”

GoodreadsAmazon

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

What would a books about crying being with the awesomeness that is TSiE? Joe Fontaine and Lennie Walker will always have a special place in our hearts. Their stories are real and raw. They will leave you feeling all of the feelings.

GoodreadsAmazon

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

You can’t even mention the name of this book to Kassiah without her sobbing. It’s been a year and half since she read it and she still remembers every gut wrenching second of her first read.

That’s our top books that make us cry! Did you have any of these on your list?

  1. Great list!

  2. Great picks. The Sky is Everywhere made my list too, such an emotional and beautiful book. I had to pick Deathly Hallows, I pretty much cry from beginning to end when reading that. My TTT 🙂
