{Top Ten Tuesday} Books That Make Us Swoon

Swoony Boys Podcast Top Ten Books That Make Us Swoon Today’s Top Ten Tuesday gives us a chance to talk about the Top Ten Books That Make Us Swoon! You guys… how were we supposed to pick only ten? I mean, this is what we do, what we live for. We stuck to the rules and didn’t got over, but it wasn’t easy. We also gave you some of our favorite swoony lines from each pick! (As usual we went alphabetical because once you pick the top ten, it’s too hard to put them in order!) Here’s our list…

Top 10 Books That Make Us Swoon:

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

I trail my fingers across his cheek. He stays perfectly still for me. “Please stop apologizing, Étienne.”

“Say my name again,” he whispers.

I close my eyes and lean forward. “Étienne.”

He takes my hands into his. Those perfect hands, that fit mine just so. “Anna?”

Our foreheads touch. “Yes?”

“Will you please tell me you love me? I’m dying here.”

And then we’re laughing. And then I’m in his arms, and we’re kissing, at first quickly—to make up for lost time—and then slowly, because we have all the time in the world. And his lips are soft and honey sweet, and the careful, passionate way he moves them against my own says that he savors the way I taste, too.

And in between kisses, I tell him I love him.

Again and again and again.

Article 5 Series by Kristen Simmons

“He put a hand on his throat, as though trying to stop the words, but they came anyway.

“You’re home. To me.”

Divergent by Veronica Roth

“I have something I need to tell you,” he says. I run my fingers along the tendons in his hands and look back at him. “I might be in love with you.” He smiles a little. “I’m waiting until I’m sure to tell you, though.”

“That’s sensible of you,” I say, smiling too. “We should find some paper so you can make a list or a chart or something.”

I feel his laughter against my side, his nose sliding along my jaw, his lips pressing my ear.

“Maybe I’m already sure,” he says, “and I just don’t want to frighten you.”

I laugh a little. “Then you should know better.”

“Fine,” he says. “Then I love you.”

The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

“Spanish, huh?” he said, glancing down at the scattered papers as he grabbed them. “Can you say anything interesting?”

“El tono de tu voz hace que queria estrangularme.” I stood up and waited for him to hand over my papers.

“That sounds sexy,” he said, getting to his feet and handing me the stack of Spanish work he’d swept together. “What’s it mean?”

“The sound of your voice makes me want to strangle myself.”

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

“What if I promise not to touch you?”

“Cath laughed. “Now I have zero incentive to come.”

“What if I promise to let you touch me first?”

“Are you kidding? I’m the untrustworthy person in this relationship. I’m all hands.”

“I’ve seen no evidence of that, Cath.”

“In my head, I’m all hands.”

“I want to live in your head.”

How to Love by Katie Cotugno

“I would never, ever ask you not to go, Reena,” he says softly. “Go do what you need to do. I already screwed up your plans once in this lifetime. I’m not going to do it again. But I guess I’m just telling you I’ll be here when and if you decide to come back.”

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

He straightens up with a wide grin. “Am I glad to see you!”

“Oh, really?”

“Really. I thought you were Dad telling me I was messing up again. I’ve been a disaster all day. Kept knocking things over. Paint cans, our garden display. He finally sent me out here when I knocked over a ladder. I think I’m a little preoccupied.”

“Maybe you should have gotten more sleep,” I offer.

“No way,” he says. Then we just gaze at each other for a long moment.

For some reason, I expect him to look different, the way I expected I would myself in the mirror this morning . . . I thought I would come across richer, fuller, as happy outside as I was inside, but the only thing that showed was my lips puffy from kisses. Jase is the same as ever also.

“That was the best study session I ever had,” I tell him.

“Locked in my memory too,” he says, then glances away as though embarrassed, bending to tear open another box.

“Even though thinking about it made me hit my thumb with a hammer putting up a wall display.”

“This thumb?” I reach for one of his callused hands, kiss the thumb.

“It was the left one.” Jase’s face creases into a smile as I pick up his other hand.

“I broke my collarbone once,” he tells me, indicating which side. I kiss that. “Also some ribs during a scrimmage freshman year.”

I do not pull his shirt up to where his finger points now. I am not that bold. But I do lean in to kiss him through the soft material of his shirt.

“Feeling better?”

His eyes twinkle. “In eighth grade, I got into a fight with this kid who was picking on Duff and he gave me a black eye.”

My mouth moves to his right eye, then the left. He cups the back of my neck in his warm hands, settling me into the V of his legs, whispering into my ear, “I think there was a split lip involved too.”

Then we are just kissing and everything else drops away. Mr. Garret could come out at any moment, a truck full of supplies could drive right on up, a fleet of alien spaceships could darken the sky, I’m not sure I’d notice.”

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

“Oh, God,’ he whispers, reaching his hand behind my neck and bringing my lips to his. ‘Let’s let the whole fucking world explode this time.’

And we do.”

Something Like Normal by Trish Doller

“And, Jesus, she’s a good kisser. So good I want to beat the hell out of whoever taught her.”

Under the Never Sky Series by Veronica Rossi

“Perry. I want to see your back.”

Another surprise, but he nodded and turned away. Dropped his head forward and took the moment to try and calm his breath. He jerked when she traced the shape of the wings on his skin, a groan sliding out of him. Perry silently cursed himself. He couldn’t have sounded more savage if he’d tried.

“Sorry,” she whispered…

“He’s magnificent. Like you,” she added softly.

That was what did it.
