What if the person you were falling for was a total mystery?

While Lily is spacing out in Chemistry one day, she picks up her pencil and scribbles a line from one of her favorite songs on the desk. The next day, someone else has written back to her on the desk! Soon enough Lily and the mystery student are exchanging notes, and lyrics, and even sharing secrets. When Lily finds out that her anonymous pen pal is a guy, she's flustered -- and kind of feels like she's falling for him. She and her best friend set out to unravel the identity of the letter writer -- but when the truth is revealed, the guy is the LAST person Lily could have ever imagined it to be. Now that Lily knows the truth, can she untangle her feelings and gather the courage to listen to her heart?

From beloved author Kasie West (The Distance Between Us) comes an utterly charming story about mixed messages, missed connections, and the magic of good old-fashioned secret admirer notes.

***Character Interview***

Today we’re sitting down with Lily from P.S I LIKE YOU. Hi! Welcome to Swoony Boys Podcast! We are so excited to have you here and we can’t wait for our readers to get to know you a little better. Ready to get started? Here we go…

High school is full of misunderstanding and finding yourself. What do you think is the most challenging part about high school? What’s the best part?

Probably the whole social part thing. I don’t mind most of the classes and the teachers are decent but figuring out what to say and when is socially acceptable to say it is exhausting. The best part is having the best friend in the whole world. Isabel is amazing and understanding and helps me navigate the tricky social aspect.

We want to know what’s on your playlist right now! Give our readers some music to listen to while they read (or re-read your story!)

  • The Story So Far “Clairvoyant”
  • Borns “10,000 Emerald Pools”
  • The Neighbourhood “Sweater Weather”
  • Halsey “Colors”
  • System of a Down “Lonely Day”
  • Cherry Glazerr “Teenage Girl”
  • Cage the Elephant “Too Late To Say Goodbye”
  • The Strokes “Last Nite”
  • The Fratellis “Henrietta”

Do you have a favorite line or lines from one of the letters with your “penpal”? We definitely have our favorites, but we are dying to know what yours are!

Some of my favorite lines from my penpals letters:

“We speak the same music language.”

“If Mr. Ortega catches me writing this letter, I am committed to shoving it in my mouth and swallowing.”

“Maybe we can get them all together and somehow they would balance each other out. Maybe we would balance each other out…”

To name just a few. Now you’ll have to actually read the letters to get the context. ☺

Family is an important part of your life. Teens grow up with so many different types of families, what is it about your family that helped shape you into the person you are now?

For better or worse my family is odd. They are loud and crazy and don’t really care what anyone else thinks (I mean, we have a pet rabbit. A rabbit!) And while at first I found that embarrassing, I realize now that it made me an individual.

You figured out who you were writing to long before you confessed to it. Do you wish you had said something sooner? Or are you glad that things happened the way they did? (More importantly, do you still write to each other?)

I don’t wish I would have said something sooner. I think we both needed the extra time to process. I’m glad it played out the way it did. And yes, we still write letters. Of course! Wouldn’t you?

If you had to pick a phrase, quote, or words to live by- what would they be?

“Be yourself everyone else is taken.” Not sure who said it, but it’s so true!

♥♥♥
