"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

The 411:

After reading Throne of Glass, we were so excited to get started on this second book in the series. At the very beginning we thought it was going smoothly, almost predictably, but boy were we wrong!

Celaena Sardothien won the competition making her the King’s Champion, but instead of following his every wish she rebels through her secret vigilantly activities. When her loyalties come in to question she finds out she isn’t the only one keeping secrets.

After facing tragedy Celaena is forced to decide where her genuine loyalties lie and whom she is truly willing to fight for.

What We Loved:

Sarah J. Maas is such a gifted storyteller! She has created a world that we love to get lost in.

Once again, we loved everything about Celaena. She is so fierce and brave yet she has flaws and weaknesses just like the next person. We love her character so much.

We thought this book seemed to be going awfully smooth at first. We should have known that it wouldn’t last. So much has happened from the start of the book to the end and oh, my goodness… we are still in awe. We weren’t sure it was possible for the Crown of Midnight to be as good as Throne of Glass but it blew us away. We feel like it is so hard to go into details but holy guacamole…if you have read Throne of Glass and haven’t read Crown of Midnight, what are you waiting for?!?! If you haven’t started the series at all then you NEED these books in your life!

Um...Not So Much:

Oh, the tragedy. We obviously can’t go into details but…we cried. We could have done without that but we understand it for what it’s worth to the story.

Bottom Line:

A spectacular second book in a series, Crown of Midnight cements this as our newest favorite series!
